Amy is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Virginia, West Virginia, and Florida who specializes in her work with eating disorders. She has over eight years of experience treating eating and mood disorders across various levels of care, including outpatient, and in intensive outpatient (IOP) and partial hospitalization (PHP) programs. Amy specializes in her individual work with adolescents and young adults. She is also trained in Family Based Treatment (FBT) which is the leading evidence-based treatment for children adolescents with eating disorders.

Amy has had a lifelong passion for eating disorder advocacy, education, and treatment accessibility. She understands that seeking therapy is a difficult decision and is passionate about being an encouraging support to individuals and families embarking on this journey. Her approach to therapy is warm, energetic, and empowering. She enjoys working with individuals of all genders and ages, though particularly excels in her work with older adolescents and young adults as they navigate the more transitional stages of life. Amy uses a person-centered approach to therapy that allows her clients to be their own experts, and to use their own understanding of their experiences as a baseline for their healing. She also integrates relational therapy techniques, supporting clients in building their sense of self and autonomy, while also developing patience with and trust in their relationships with others.

Amy graduated from Marymount University with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Prior to that, she received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Mason University. She is a member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP).

Working with Amy

I am passionate about recovery and believe that it is possible for everyone. I also know that eating disorders don’t just impact one person, but their entire family system. My work is centered around helping clients and families find their versions of recovery, whatever that might look like for them, by leveraging their strengths.

I have 10 years of experience in treating eating disorders across various levels of care, including partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP) and outpatient settings. I have training and experience in treating all eating disorder diagnoses, including ARFID and those suffering from longstanding eating disorders, and will work collaboratively with other members of your care team to support a wholistic approach to treatment.

I know that seeking therapy is a difficult decision, and that navigating the landscape of eating disorder treatment can be an even more daunting process. It can feel so overwhelming to figure out where to start and what the right treatment options are for you and your family. My goal is to make that feel more manageable, because the last thing you need as you try to navigate eating disorder recovery for yourself or your loved one is to feel lost in the shuffle of our treatment systems. I am here to walk with you side-by-side on this journey as an encouraging support, and I bring a warm, authentic and empowering approach to sessions. When I’m not at work, you’ll likely find me out in nature with my dog Mason (he loves to paddle board), watching motorsports or exploring new cities.

Clinical Approach

Eating disorders are known for hiding in plain sight: they often go undiagnosed, and are misunderstood by many healthcare professionals. Because of this, I have always been passionate about dedicating my career to both treating eating disorders and supporting increased cultural awareness and understanding of them. I do this through advocating for policy change, breaking down the stigma and providing trainings to local organizations (such as schools) and other clinicians. I am also a board-approved clinical supervisor for the state of Virginia and exclusively provide supervision to licensed residents in counseling who want to learn how to treat eating disorders.

I am trained in the leading evidence-based treatments for eating disorders, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E) and ARFID (CBT-AR), and family based treatment (FBT). These skills allow me to work with individuals and families across the age spectrum, and at any phase of their recovery journey. Whether you’re brand new to treatment or have been in a long-term space of recovery and just want some support (or anything in-between) I’d love to work with you.

While these frameworks provide a helpful lens to structure sessions and approach our work together, I am first-and-foremost a person-centered therapist. Research shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the biggest facilitators of therapeutic change and I will always tailor my approach to meet your unique wants and needs. Being collaborative is important to me, and my approach centers on the belief that while I’m the expert on treating the eating disorder, you are the expert on yourself or your child.
