Alexis Buckheit Hurdle, LPC

Therapist, Clinical Supervisor, and Clinical Director

 

Alexis is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Clinical Supervisor and the Clinical Director at Balanceworks who is passionate about working together with clients during challenging times in their lives and believes in healing for all. She sees the therapeutic relationship as the most important factor in supporting clients to explore and understand themselves and move towards self-discovery, self-acceptance, and healing. She is a warm, empathetic person and strives to provide a safe and supportive space to foster a productive therapeutic relationship, allowing individuals to create enduring and lasting change within their lives.

In therapy, Alexis' approach is holistic and interpersonal, while also pulling from aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to meet each client's unique needs. She enjoys working with clients who suffer from eating disorders, anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, relationship issues, trauma, grief, and managing life's transitions. Alexis is also experienced in working with individuals who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Prior to working in private practice, Alexis has worked in RTC, PHP, and IOP levels of care treating eating disorders, as well as at a university setting treating students with various mental health concerns. Alexis is also committed to professional excellence and furthering her training as a clinician.  She regularly participates in trainings, workshops, and other learning opportunities to advance her clinical skills. In addition to other trainings, Alexis completed an advanced certificate in the treatment of trauma further advancing her skills working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse. Alexis' passion as a therapist is to support individuals on a path to healing and looks forward to working together to support you to make the changes you want in your life. 

 

Alexis is licensed in The District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia to provide therapy and is approved to provide clinical supervision to counseling residents in Virginia.
